Andrew Russell is a folk artist and words are his medium. Smart, gutsy,
honest, sometimes raw, always refreshing. I turn to this little gem
often and each time feel I have gained a new perspective on our human
condition–whether it be related to politics, love, loss, religion,
freedom or just life in general. There is no fluff here-if you are
looking for poetry that is layered in frosting and other confections you
will not find it here. This is not poetry for those who wish to
maintain their illusion of a perfect world. It is also not for those who
believe the only form of poetry is a sonnet as this book of poetry does
not weigh itself down with the unnecessary overuse of structured form.
Mr. Russell’s poems sometimes read like personal journal entries, and
this is part of what makes them so powerful. This little book is full of
honest, intelligent observations and insights that challenge the
reader. Absolutely refreshing. I am looking forward to reading more of
this fine poet’s work.
